David Shields - Today’s Men Teaching
Transcript
It is also important for more men of color to get into the teaching profession for diversity's sake.
My name is David P. Shields the second, and I currently teach at Michelle Clark High School on Chicago's west side. I'm teaching M. P.
Biology. The African American children need to see themselves in the teacher that's in front of them. I chose to teach in my community. They call it K Town.
It is meaningful to teach in my neighborhood because I know exactly where my kids come from and they know exactly where I've come from. We know our past and we know that we have a connection. So if you really wanna make honest change in this world, you're gonna have to do something bold, you're gonna have to do something different, and being a teacher right now is bold and different, especially for men of color. But I know that there are some that will answer the call because of the importance.
