Homes for our Troops

I was always fascinated with the infantry. I saw the brochure and you know it had the Marine on there with his you know dress blues and the sword in front of them and the words on there was honor, courage, commitment. It pretty much drew me to it. I was on my second deployment in Iraq. It was May two thousand and five. We were doing a routine patrol. That's when the IED blew and pretty much took everything from the windshield forward, just pretty much disappeared.

I didn't realize my leg was injured. I tried to get out of the vehicle, stand up, And as soon as I stood up, I just fell to the ground. Ended up getting my leg amputated. They tried to save as much as I could.

We just stuck together, stuck through it, knew everything was gonna be okay. And of course we have our, we had our challenges and stuff. And, but I mean, he's here, he's alive, so it's all that mattered.

He's moving from a house that had stairs to now he's gonna be able to get around the whole home and the perimeter as well, walk on the outside sidewalks.

Have an adaptable home where he has no barriers, all the obstacles are removed.

It's very much a sense of relief. Weight being lifted off your shoulders is really how you feel.

Just can't thank everyone enough for what they've done allowing you to make it a home.

Homes for our troops would like to welcome you to our four hundredth home build and key ceremony for marine Lance Corporal Albert Flores.

Our mission is to build and donate specially adapted custom homes for severely injured post nine eleven veterans.

We will never not support homes for our troops. We will never change from that commitment that we've made.

America still makes them like we used to. And Lance Corporal Flores is living proof that he is one of America's new greatest generations.

We got sixty five more projects currently underway across the country. We've got another hundred veterans in the application process. There's still almost a thousand more veterans out there that need one of these homes. And we're bound and determined before we get done to make sure everyone that needs one has one.

I mean, it's been such a blessing. I mean, now just to have this open floor plan and wider doorways and everything from having ease and access with my wheelchair and not having to hop around everywhere. I could feel like my body just feel better.

Being here has been such a huge relief. We needed this. Like I didn't even realize what we were missing in life until we got this home. I'm like, it's just more, we're at peace, we're at peace.
