Hi, I'm Kit Bernardi, travel journalist, photographer, and world explorer. I've been to fifty seven countries, but no matter where I travel, my heart always brings me back to America's fifty states. Join me on this adventure across our land in my RV.
In Northwest Indiana's LaGrange and Elkhart counties, we meet the Amish people and experience one of the world's largest free garden events of its kind, the quilt gardens. Why quilt gardens? Why now? Why visit?

What can you tell me about the quilt mural that you have on your farm?
When I think of Meadowbrook, I think of the Civil War days and what was going on in that time period. There were different signs here on the farm where slaves could look to see where they should go for shelter.
It's clearly a very international environment and that might be a surprise to some people coming to a small town like Goshen.
The town is actually quite international. It's kind of surprising that Goshen College, because it has one of the leading education programs, it gives the town an international flavor. It's a much more artsy town than you might expect in the upper Midwest.
